📖 Detailed Explanation
TCH is used to spell the /ch/ sound only after a SINGLE vowel that does NOT say its name (short vowel). This completes the trio with CK and DGE.

- Short vowel + /ch/ = TCH (usually)
- Exceptions: much, such, which, rich
- After consonant or long vowel: just CH
